SALISBURY, Md. - Stevenson Men's Lacrosse headed south this evening for a non-conference matchup with No. 1 Salisbury University. Despite the first half ending in a 5-5 tie, Salisbury would run away with the offense in the third and fourth quarters. The Mustangs ultimately fell to the Sea Gulls 18-8.
Junior Jered Monar wasted no time getting the Mustangs on the board, converting a pass from classmate Grant Zick to score just 16 seconds into the game. He was followed by junior Graeme McCrory in a solo effort with just over a minute remaining in the opening quarter. Monar's goal was his third on the year and McCrory's his second.Â
The Mustangs trailed by two heading into the second, but Zick and classmate Jack Scaliti would bring the game back to even within eight minutes. Senior Andrew Searing scored his eighth goal of the year via Zick to tie the game at five heading into halftime.Â
Salisbury came out hot in the second, scoring five straight goals by the ten-minute mark. Senior Dillon Linhardt scored his third goal on the season to break up the scoring spree, capitalizing on an extra man opportunity by way of Zick once more.
Salisbury capped off the third with five goals and began the fourth quarter with two more. First year Darrell Curtis halted the Sea Gull offense early in the quarter, citing an assist from Zick for the eighth goal of his rookie campaign.
Stevenson's final goal was scored by Grant Zick as he was the lone Mustang to notch multiple points. His two goals and four assists tonight bring his season totals to 15 and 16, respectively. He leads the team in points with 31.
Defensively, senior Ryan Quinn collected seven ground balls followed by first year Gavin Gossen and senior Conor Halpin with three apiece. Quinn also tied for a game-high four caused turnovers. Halpin would finish the game with ten face-off wins.
Between the pipes, graduate student Justin Scorese was kept busy, facing 60 total shots and making 14 saves.
Stevenson falls to 3-5 ahead of their next non-conference contest with Elizabethtown College. The Mustangs host the Blue Jays at Mustang Stadium on Wednesday, March 27th at 7 p.m.
