Mustangs score eight runs in seventh inning, top Barons 18-3

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson baseball (3-3) topped the Franciscan University Barons (0-1) on a chilly Friday afternoon by a final score of 18-3.
 
The Barons managed two runs in the top of the first.  Quickly taking the lead, the Mustangs added five runs in the bottom of the first. The Barons added their third and last run in the second inning.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, sophomore outfielders Graham Sears and Kaige Garrity each scored. In the bottom of the fifth, junior outfield Dalton Reinhart hit a double, allowing Sears and Garrity to score.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, the Mustangs had eight runs and seven hits despite two errors. Garrity scored on a single from junior first baseman Anthony D'Angeli. First-year infield Jaylon Surell singled, allowing Reinhart to score. Sophomore infield Noah Joly reached first on an error, allowing D'Angeli to score. A single from sophomore outfield Cory Hatcher allowed first-year outfield Christopher Manco to score. Surell scored on a single from junior outfield Zach Majeski. Joly scored the seventh run of the inning on a single from sophomore first baseman Vince Licor. Finally, Hatcher scored on a single from junior first baseman Jack Gitterman.
 
Sophomore catcher John Padousis scored the final run in the eighth inning before the game was called due to darkness.
 
Reinhart led all batters with three RBI, with five at bats, two runs, and three hits. Garrity scored four runs on the afternoon with two walks. At pitching, senior Jason Labrador struck out three with 4.0 innings pitched.
 
The Mustangs will take on the Barons in a tentative doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, March 2  for a noon start time at East Campus.
