Women's Lacrosse clipped in overtime by Washington College, 14-13

Yarusso and Murray with three goals each

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Washington College's Piper Evans scored 1:17 into the first overtime, as the Shorewomen (3-0) defeated Stevenson (0-3) 14-13 in a wild, back and forth, women's lacrosse game at Mustang Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Mustangs ralled from a three-goal deficit in the third quarter and went goal-for-goal with the Shorewomen before forcing the overtime with 50 seconds left as Kara Yarusso scored to end the game into extras.
 
Yarusso and Sophia Murray had three goals each, while Erin Steinberg and Isabelle VanEmburgh scored twice in the loss.
 
Ava Treakle, Kellyan Coccie and Natalie Storm each had goals for Stevenson.
 
Steinburg and Hailey Johnston each had three caused turnovers on the afternoon, while Yarusso and Rachel McDonough had two. Murray and goalkeeper Regan Torbert both had four ground balls, with Yarusso getting six draw controls.
 
In goal, Torbert had 16 saves on the afternoon.
 
In the first quarter, Washington College led 3-0 before Stevenson scored three straight to tie the score as Storm scored at 3:15 left in the first, followed by VanEmburgh's first goal of the game at 2:06. Steinberg scored her first at 11:34 left in the second to tie the score at 3-all.
 
Washington went back up 5-3, before a goal by Treakle and two straight goals from Yarusso put the Mustangs in front 6-5 with 3:23 left in the first half.
 
Washington would tie the score at 6-all, then score the first three goals of the third to take a 9-6 lead.
 
Goals by Murray, Coccia and Erin Steinberg, the latter coming with 10:35 left in the fourth, knotted the score at 10-all.
 
Stevenson will not play again until next Sunday, March 3, welcoming Otterbein into Mustang Stadium for a 1 p.m. first draw.
