ASTON, Pa. - Stevenson Women's Ice Hockey traveled to Neumann University this afternoon for game two of their series and the final game of the season for both teams. Though the Mustangs would come out of the first period with a 1-0 lead, a three-goal second period for the Knights would prove sufficient as the hosts came away with a 3-2 win.
First year Abby Smith added another point to her weekend total, scoring the Mustangs' lone goal with help from senior Franki Cappello and sophomore Maggie Dean on the power-play. Dean concludes her second year with four (3G, 1A) and Cappello finishes her career as the season's point leader (13PTS, 4G, 9A) and 22 overall points (8G, 14A).
Neumann would score three goals in the second period to gain a two-goal lead that would not be touched until late in the third. First year Emma DeMan scored her fourth goal of the season on the power-play, citing assists from Smith and senior Emily Brightbill. DeMan and Smith finish their rookie campaigns with nine points apiece while Brightbill finishes her collegiate career with 19 (9G, 10A).
First year Carleigh Barwick led the Mustang offense with eight shots on goal, followed by DeMan and seniors Cassie Campbell, Gracie Payne, and Hannah Labbe with four shots each. Cappello, Brightbill, and sophomore Kendall Girnt finished with two shots.
Campbell once again led the Mustangs in face-off wins with 16, followed by DeMan with 12. DeMan would also block a game-high three shots.
In net, senior Ainsley King made 24 stops, bringing her career total to 599.
The Mustangs finish the season 4-21 overall with all four wins coming in UCHC play.
