ASHLAND, Va. –
Mason Jones scored 20 points – a game-high – as Stevenson (6-4) defeated Brevard (5-4) 70-63 in the consolation game of the Suyes Yellow Jacket Classic on Sunday hosted by Randolph-Macon.
Jones – who scored 16 points in Saturday's game with RMC – was named to the All-Tournament team for his efforts. He was 8-for-10 in 27 minutes of play on Sunday, grabbing eight rebounds and adding in a block.
Ronald Ayers scored 16 for the Mustangs, with
Cameron Smith getting ten as the Mustangs led by as much as 19 points in the first half.
Cameron Sapienza pulled down ten rebounds as the Mustangs held a commanding 45-26 edge on the glass with an 11-5 edge on the offensive side. Sapienza also had three steals in the win.
Trailing 11-8 with 14:09 left in the first half, Stevenson took the lead for good via a 15-3 run as a jumper from Jones with 9:38 left gave the Mustangs a 23-14 lead.
Stevenson shot 55.6 percent from the field in the first half (20-for-36) while holding Brevard to 9-for-29 shooting (31 percent).
The Mustangs close non-conference play on Saturday at 3 p.m., hosting Johns Hopkins.
