Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Trailing 21-3 just seconds into the second half, Stevenson staged a comeback against SUNY-Morrisville in the ECAC Scott Whitelaw Bowl on Saturday, only to come up short 21-18.
In a battle of the Mustangs, Stevenson (5-6) cut the deficit to three at 21-18 with 11:10 left in the fourth quarter but could not get any closer.
Stevenson was led by an impressive defensive performance from
Gavin Shields, who had a game-high 14 tackles, and also an interception in the end zone to stop a SUNY-Morrisville scoring opportunity.
It was a defensive battle as Morrisville had 270 yards of total offense, with Stevenson having just 207.
Edward Emmons rushed for 32 yards, with
Nyaire Wilson throwing for 120 yards and one score.
Jordan Adams took over late, running for a score and throwing for 31 yards.
Dillon Johnson had four catches for 38 yards and a score.
Trailing 14-0 after the first quarter, Stevenson got on the board with 7:02 left in the first half as
Donnie Waitt kicked a 23-yard field goal to cap a 13-play, 80 yard drive.
After Morrisville returned the second half kickoff for a touchdown, Stevenson got a 5-yard TD pass from Wilson to Johnson with 4:50 left in the third.
Adams rushed for a 1-yard score with 11:10 left in the game, then threw a 2-point conversion to
Deion Richardson.
Morrisvlle – out of the Empire 8 Conference – took advantage of six Stevenson fumbles and recovered three of them.
