Women's Volleyball earns sweep on Dig Pink Day over LVC and Drew

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University women's volleyball team ended the week on a high note, sweeping two matches as part of a tri-match with Lebanon Valley and Drew on Saturday.
 
More importantly, the Mustangs (10-7) raised awareness for Breast Cancer research as part of the Side-Out/Dig Pink day.
 
In the opener, the Mustangs took a thriller from the Flying Dutchmen (9-7) 3-2, while earning a sweep in the nightcap over Drew (5-12) 3-0.

Set scores in the opener went 25-21, 25-27, 20-25, 25-16 and 15-8.
 
Rachel Lenz had a strong campaign in the opening, netting 21 kills on 40 attempts with just four errors (.425). Giulia Viglietta had 14 kills with Kylie DesLauriers adding in nine.
 
Nicolette Fuglestad had eight aces, with Samantha Simmers and Viglietta each netting two. Her eight aces in the match puts her tied for seventh all-time in school history in a match.
 
Zakara Masibo continued her outstanding play at the net, getting six blocks while Lily Hornickle had four.
 
Makala Thompson had 29 assists and Simmers had 23.
 
Defensively, DesLauriers had 31 digs with Fuglestad getting 21 and Thompson 14.
 
Stevenson trailed 4-1 in the fifth and deciding set, before going on a 11-0 run go to up 12-4 as Fuglestad had seven of her eight service aces during that run, including six consecutive.

Set scores in the sweep were 25-11, 25-19 and 25-20.
 
Lenz again hit double figures in kills, going for ten while Viglietta had nine.
 
Courtney Foose had five aces, with Viglietta getting three.
 
Sydney Salazar had six blocks, with Maren Zepfel getting two. Foose had 17 assists, with DesLauriers getting 11 digs.
 
Stevenson heads to Eastern on Wednesday to take on the defending Commonwealth champions.
