Field Hockey downs Hood for second MACC win

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson Field Hockey hosted Hood College this evening in their first home MACC matchup. The Mustangs scored in the second, third, and fourth quarters to earn a 3-1 victory, improving to 2-0 in conference and 11-2-1 overall.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Mustangs would strike at the halfway point of the second. Sophomore Shae Bennett found the back of the net with a high shot on a penalty stroke to break the stalemate.

Bennett's goal would generate some offensive momentum as the Mustangs tallied six shots in the second, nine in the third, and four in the fourth.

Classmate Lauren Schulz would insert a penalty corner in the final minutes of the third quarter, then score off of a tip from Bennett in front of the net. The goal was Schulz' second on the year.

Early in the final quarter, junior Hailey Mertz would notch her second goal of the season as well, picking up a rebound produced by first year Coco Wallace.

Hood would score with less than four minutes remaining in the game, but were unable to catch up to the Mustangs.

In net, sophomore Jordan Vradenburgh made three saves. Lauren Schulz picked up a defensive save in the fourth quarter as well.

Stevenson's next contest is scheduled for this Saturday, October 19th at noon when the Mustangs host Widener for their homecoming game.
