Men’s Hockey secures second straight MAC title with win over Arcadia at home

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson Men's Hockey cruised to a 5-1 victory over Arcadia University tonight, securing their second straight and fourth overall Middle Atlantic Conference title in the process. The win put the Mustangs at 6-2 in the MAC with 18 points - a total that cannot be surpassed by any conference opponent for the remainder of the season.

A scoreless first period gave way to a productive second, starting with senior Frank Vitucci's goal just five minutes in. Classmate Brendan Rylott earned his seventh assist of the season on Vitucci's sixth goal this year.

Vitucci picked up his second point of the night ten minutes later as junior Liam McCanney found the back of the net on the Mustang power-play. Assisting with Vitucci was junior Malcolm Palmer.

McCanney and Palmer were back on the scoresheet together once more to open the third, with the duo registering their second goal and assist, respectively. Sophomore John Musella was credited with the primary assist on Stevenson's second power-play goal alongside Palmer and McCanney.

Junior Jake Roberts waited only five minutes to extend the Mustangs lead, doing so via classmate Evan Beers and Rylott. Roberts' third goal of the season gave Beers and Rylott their 10th and 11th points of the year, respectively.

McCanney would complete his hat trick with just under five minutes to go, citing another assist from Musella for his 16th point of the year. McCanney tops the UCHC and MAC in goals with 15 and is tied for second in game-winners with three after tonight.

In net, junior Ty Outen made 23 saves to secure his 15th win of his debut season with the Mustangs. Outen's 1.61 goals against average and .951 save percentage lead both conferences.

With the win, the 2023-24 MAC champions improve to 16-4-1 overall and 12-3-1 overall with a six-game win streak. The Mustangs look to continue the streak next Friday and Saturday, February 2nd and 3rd, with their home-and-home series against Neumann University.
