PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Stevenson Men's Hockey completed the sweep over Chatham this afternoon with a 2-0 victory. The win puts the Mustangs at 14-4-1 overall and 10-3-1 in the UCHC.
Nearly 57 minutes of play went scoreless, but not for lack of trying. The Mustangs dominated offensively, totaling 14 shots on goal in the first period, 15 in the second, and 21 in the third. Stevenson's junior netminder Ty Outen and Chatham's Finnegan kept each other's forwards frustrated until the Mustangs broke through with minutes to spare.
First year Rhett Evjen scored his sixth goal and third game-winner of the season off of a rebound from senior Zach Bannister, who got a shot off thanks to a pass from junior Aidan Graham. The points were Bannister and Graham's 17th and 6th of the year, respectively.
Before time expired, senior Frank Vitucci would score an insurance empty-netter, accounting for his fourth goal of the season.
Outen would finish the game with 31 saves in his 13th win and fourth shutout of the season.
In front of Outen, Graham and classmate Malcolm Palmer, senior Eric Olson, and first year Jack Meloff each contributed two blocked shots.
Offensively, sophomore Aidan McDowell led the charge with seven shots, followed by Bannister with six. In the circle, Olson won a game-high 16 draws, followed by sophomore John Musella going 12-for-16.
The Mustangs now boast a four-game win streak heading into their next series with UCHC and MAC opponent Arcadia University, set to be a home-and-home. The series begins at Arcadia at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 26th before the Mustangs return home on Saturday the 27th for another 7 p.m. puck drop.
