OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson women's basketball (4-11, 0-4) was tested against out-of-conference opponent Mary Washington (10-5) on a snowy Martin Luther King, Jr. Monday holiday. The final score was 108-45, in favor of the Eagles.
Tested early, the Mustangs allowed four points before adding to the board off a free throw series at 7:33 on the clock. Despite an early push, the lone scoring chance of the first quarter came from sophomore forward
Tessa Boswell at 5:55 remaining. The quarter ended 26-3, a gap the Mustangs would not be able to close.
The second quarter found an early chance for the Mustangs as junior guard
Emori Jeselskis sank a three 35 seconds into action. Two more opportunities followed as the clock wound down to the half from Boswell at 8:22 and sophomore guard
Erin Dixon at 6:33. However, the Mustangs managed only three free throws off fouls, and went into the half trailing 56-17.
Halftime proved useful, as the Mustangs found two chances as the third quarter opened, close to each other from Dixon at 9:22 and Jeselskis at 8:54. Despite a quick and promising effort, the Mustangs could not find positioning as the Eagles widened the gap to over 50 points. The third quarter ended 85-28.
Another chance for the Mustangs arrived in the fourth quarter with a three from Boswell. Despite the Eagles eclipsing 90 points, Mustang sophomore forward
Aliyah Jean-Jacques sank a jumper with just over six minutes remaining. First-year guard
Amoni Taylor added two at 3:48 remaining following a successful free throw series just under a minute earlier. Technical fouls were assessed in the final minutes as Boswell made two to bring the team past 40 points and the Eagles shot free throws to hit 100 points. In a last-minute effort, both Taylor and sophomore forward
Kalea Wynter each added two, bringing the game to the final 108-45 score.
Boswell led with 12 points while Taylor had eight. First-year
Elia Richardson added four steals in the loss.
