DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Stevenson women's soccer team registered a 5-3 win over the Delaware Valley Aggies on Wednesday evening to slot the squad's first win of the season.
The Mustangs came out on fire as Karly Shaehan put away a goal 42 seconds into the match off a ball from
Jayden Rittle. Delaware Valley responded in the 12
th minute of the contest to tie the match 1-1. The remainder of the first half was a back-and-forth battle between both teams, leading into a 1-1 draw at halftime.
Stevenson came out in the second half starting with another early goal, as
Shania Hyatt netted an unassisted goal in the 57
th minute. About 20 minutes later,
Madison Rytina put another goal away off a pass from
Cassidy Butler to slot a 3-1 lead for the Mustangs. The Aggies then responded with two goals between the 76
th and 79
th minute to tie the match at 3-3.
Cassidy Butler then responded with two unassisted goals to secure a win for Stevenson. Butler's first goal was put away in the 86
th minute, and her second goal was put away on a penalty kick with 42 seconds remaining in the match up.
In the contest, Butler posted a five-point evening with two goals and an assist. Hyatt, Rytina, and Sheahan each slotted a two-point game with a goal each, while Rittle notched an assist. Butler and Purcell led the team with five shots on goal each, as Sheahan and Rytina each put up two.
Courtney Wysokowski stood in goal for Stevenson, securing three saves on the evening.
The Mustangs will prepare to host their first home contest of the season on Saturday as the squad will face Marymount on Owings Mills East. The team will take a moment to recognize their seniors prior to the match up which is slated for 1 p.m.
