Box Score GRANTHAM, Pa. – The win streak for Stevenson University women's volleyball has now reached seven as the Mustangs (10-3, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth) defeated Messiah (9-5, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) 3-1 Tuesday night on the road.
Set scores were 19-25, 25-14, 25-21 and 25-18.
Kylie DesLauriers had a team-high 12 kills to lead the Mustangs, while
Rileigh Kimball had nine and
Darian Dildy had eight. Stevenson as a team hit .187, but, went 13-2-25 in the second set (.440).
Makala Thompson had 22 assists, while
Samantha Simmers had 15.
Defensively,
Kayla Vaeth had 19 digs with Kimball getting 12, and DesLauriers adding in 11.
Dildy had two solo blocks and four block assists, as the Mustangs had 14 block assists in the win.
In the first set, both teams battled to a 10-10 tie, before Messiah went on a scoring streak that saw the Falcons take their biggest lead at 19-11 on a kill by Cassidy Dell. The Mustangs, facing set point at 24-15, scored four straight points as
Giulia Viglietta had two kills during the run.
The second set saw Stevenson even things at 1-all, as leading 18-14, the Mustangs closed the match be scoring the final seven points. DesLauriers had two service aces, while Dildy had two blocks and a kill.
Stevenson took a 2-1 lead in the third set as, tied at 16, the Mustangs took the lead for good at 19-16 via two Falcon attack errors and a kill from Viglietta. Messiah would get to within one at 20-19, before back-to-back kills by DesLauriers gave the Mustangs a 22-19 advantage. Stevenson would then add a service ace from Thompson and a bad Falcon set to take a 24-19 lead before winning the set 25-21.
In the fourth and final set, Stevenson pulled away from a 15-14 lead as Kimball and Vaeth had kills in addition to Kimball having a service ace. Messiah would get no closer than two points the rest of the way.
Stevenson hosts Penn State Berks and Penn State Altoona on Saturday.
