OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Closing out a season-opening five-match homestand, the Stevenson University women's volleyball team defeated Catholic 3-1 in non-conference play Wednesday night at Owings Mills Gym.
The Mustangs (5-3) finished 4-1 on the homestand, and won tonight's match by set scores of 25-21, 25-20, 23-25 and 26-24.
Stevenson was paced by 14 klils from
Rileigh Kimball and
Kylie DesLauriers with 13 of them coming from
Darian Dildy. The Mustangs didn't have an error in the fourth and deciding set, swinging .462 (18-0-39).
Makala Thompson had 25 assists.
Defensively,
Kayla Vaeth had 21 digs with DesLauriers netting 17. The Mustangs had ten total blocks, with Dildy having two solo and assisting on three others.
The match featured 31 ties and 14 lead changes.
In the first set, Stevenson held the lead throughout as Catholic (5-2) tied the score twice but could not overtake the Mustangs. Leading 22-21, Dildy had two kills down the stretch as the Mustangs won 25-21.
In set two, Stevenson trailed 13-12 before scoring the next ten points to go up 22-13 and never looked back. The Mustangs took advantage of seven Cardinal miscues and got kills from Kimball and
Alexandra Fisher.
Set three saw the Mustangs hold a 22-19 lead but Catholic would rally to tie the score, then win the set on a Mustang attack error.
In the fourth and deciding set, both teams were deadlocked at 20-all. Dildy had three kills down the stretch, including a thunderous one to force match point at 25-24.
Stevenson heads to Arcadia for a quad match with Muhlenberg, Kean and host Arcadia this weekend starting on Friday night with the Mules.
