MUSTANG SUMMER STRIDES: Silverman interns with Pfizer’s Pharmaceutical and Laboratory

BOSTON, Mass. – Maddie Silverman of Stevenson women's ice hockey is spending her summer at home completing an internship and working alongside professionals at Pfizer's Pharmaceutical and Laboratory in Boston, Mass.

"My favorite thing about this internship is all the new information and technology I get to learn about and use," stated Silverman. "Being able to work with and converse with some of the greatest researchers from all over the world is an amazing experience."

The defender landed this opportunity through her connections in the ice hockey community. When she heard of this opportunity from a fellow ice hockey player, she had applied and was accepted into the program.

The rising junior is working as an intern research scientist on the biomedicine design team. This team is focusing on the newly discovered relationship between tyrosine sulfation regarding the strength and potency of the corona virus antibodies. With this internship, two keys to success are time management and organization. "Being able to manage my time is a very important part of my role here this summer, and being a student-athlete, I am familiar with having to be on top of your work and being accountable," stated Silverman.

"Being a Chemistry major at Stevenson, it gives me the opportunity to use my lab and critical thinking skills in the real world. It also gives me a glimpse into what it is like to work in a lab and be part of a research team," noted Silverman.
