YORK, Pa. — The Stevenson men's lacrosse team fell in the MAC Commonwealth Championship contact to the York College of Pennsylvania Spartans 9-14 on Saturday afternoon.
The Mustangs started off the match up with a face off win and goal in the first minute of the matchup. With 14:09 on the board,
Cam Leydig opened scoring. Under two minutes later,
Josh Brannan put a goal away with an assist from
Shane Ford. The Spartans then followed with a five-goal run to take the 6-2 lead over the Mustangs heading into the second quarter.
The Spartans opened scoring of the second quarter with just under 13 minutes in the clock. Stevenson grabbed their third goal of the contest with 2:25 left in the half as
Cam Leydig netted one with an assist from
Grant Zick. York then replied about a minute later to slot the 8-3 lead over the Mustangs leading into halftime.
Ford started the third quarter off with a goal at 14:14 to tally his 50th goal of the season. York then grabbed their ninth goal with 9:22 on the board. Graeme Mcrory then added a point to the board with an unassisted goal at 8:04.
Jack Scaliti then followed with about six minutes left in the quarter with an unassisted goal off a crease roll. The Spartans then responded with three more goals to grow their lead 12-6 heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Mcrory put away unassisted goal at 10:58 to slate the seventh goal for the Mustangs. York followed with two goals, as
Griffin Gast put an eighth goal for the Mustangs at 2:36. Less than a minute later, Leydig put another goal away off a feed from Ford. Despite offensive efforts from the Mustangs, the squad fell 9-14 to the Spartans.
