OWINGS MILLS, Md. - In its regular season home finale, the Stevenson University men's volleyball team swung early and often in a 3-0 win over Wilkes in Middle Atlantic Conference play Wednesday night.
Set scores were 25-10, 25-13 and 25-20.
The Mustangs posted a .439 attack percentage (45-9-82) with six players swinging .400 or better in the match.
Tim Flanagan led the way with a team and match-high 16 kills as he went 16-4-28 (.429), Ryan Thenell and Jack Braverman each had nine kills, with Thenell having just one error on 18 attempts.
Justin Novoa had 35 assists, while Flanagan had three service aces. The Mustangs netted eight total blocks with Aidan O'Brien and Flanagan each assisting on two.
Defensively, Michael Dougherty had 11 digs with Flanagan getting ten.
Wilkes was led by nine kills from Jackson Shafer.
In the first set, Stevenson broke open an early 2-2 tie, as the Mustangs scored three points on Wilkes' attack errors. The lead grew as high as 15 at 22-7 when O'Brien had a kill.
In the second set, Stevenson again led cover-to-cover going up by as much as 12.
The third set proved to be a little bit of a challenge as Wilkes rallied from seven down late in the third set to get within 23-20. However, the Mustangs got back-to-back kills from Braverman and Thenell to end the match.
The Mustangs head up to Messiah for a tri-match with Messiah (ranked fifth in the country) and Misericordia starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
