Mustangs Fall to Nazareth in UCHC Quarterfinal

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The third-seeded Stevenson men's ice hockey team (15-10-2) fell to second seed Nazareth (18-7-2) by a score 2-4 in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) semifinal Saturday evening at Bill Gray's Iceplex.

The Golden Flyers earned two first period power plays but were unable to convert as the Stevenson penalty killers remained strong. Nazareth took six shots on goal in their two chances, but Ryan Kenny stopped each shot. The first period ended with neither team able to break into the goal column.

The second period was far more active, with each team adding two goals. Nazareth broke the scoreless tie first with a tally from Jeremy Shwartz at the 2:52 mark of the period. Austin Master found the stick of Liam McCanney who sent home the first Mustang goal at 8:03 to tie the game at one goal apiece. The tie did not last long as Nazareth regained it lead just 25 seconds later. However, Stevenson earned a power play and capitalized on the advantage when Alex Rivet found the back of the net at 13:46. Ryan Kenny stopped six shots in the remaining six minutes of the period to keep the game level.

In the third period, Nazareth turned up the offensive pressure, ripping six shots on goal before breaking the tie with a goal from Blake Frost. Stevenson made a strong offensive push ripping five shots on goal in the next six minutes. The Mustangs emptied the net for an extra skater with a minute and a half remaining but the Golden Flyers scored a goal to put the score to 2-4.
