READING, Pa. - The Stevenson men's track and field team kicked off the MAC Indoor Championships, hosted by Alvernia at the PLEX, with several stellar performances.
Nathan Williams broke his own school record (18.14m) in the weight throw with a top toss of 18.43m, which gave him second overall and All-MAC Second Team honors. The lone competitor to finish ahead of Williams was the 2022 National Champion in the event - Alex Kristeller of Widener, who had a meet record toss of 19.42m. Williams' performance is currently second in the Mid-Atlantic region and 15th in Division III.
Stevenson would also pick up a second-place finish in the 4x200 (
Jai Raccioppi,
Amar Mack,
Jubelo Oyeniran and
Cameron Summers) with a season-best time of 1:33.07. Summers also took first overall in the 60m dash preliminaries with an impressive time of 6.97. Summers, who has the second-fastest time in the region (6.92), will look to win his second-straight conference title in the event. Stevenson has won the event in each of the last three conference championships (Dereck Davis - 2019, 2020, Summers - 2022).
Jeremiah Battle currently leads the heptathlon with a score of 2680 after winning three of the four events completed thus far. Battle clocked a personal-best time of 7.30 in the 60m to take first in the event. Battle would also win the long jump and high jump events with PR's of 6.60m and 1.74m, respectively. Battle placed second in the shot put with a top throw (and PR) of 11.96m. Battle will look to win Stevenson's third conference title in the event (
Ritchie Case - 2019, 2022) when the events resume on Saturday.
Charles Greer clocked a personal-best time of 9.22 in the 60m hurdles preliminaries, while
Hayden Schindler ran a PR in the 5000 (15:45.25).
In the distance medley relay, Stevenson (
Jake Barrett,
Malik Hamilton,
Johnathan Womack and
Spencer Cole) finished 10th with a combined time of 11:09.98.
After the first day of competition, Stevenson is fifth out of 11 schools with 16 points.
The majority of the events will take place on the second and final day of the meet on Saturday, Feb. 24.
