REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson Women's Ice Hockey hosted Alvernia University in game two of their UCHC and MAC series this evening. Alvernia, maintaining their momentum from yesterday's loss, would pull out a 4-2 win to earn the sweep.
Alvernia would take an early lead, scoring seven minutes into regulation before netting a last-second power-play goal to end the first period.
The Mustangs would get on the board halfway through the second thanks to senior Franki Cappello with a power-play goal, tucking away a rebound from first year Carleigh Barwick. The goal was Cappello's second of the season for her fourth point while Barwick's assist was the first of her collegiate career for her third point.
Alvernia would maintain the lead for the remainder of the period, but Stevenson had other ideas for the third. Senior Katelyn Reid would pick up first year Abby Smith's block and capitalize on a breakaway to tie the game two minutes in. The goal was Reid's second of the year and Smith's assist accounts for her first collegiate point.
Within one minute, the Golden Wolves would once again take advantage of a power-play to take the lead for the last time, followed by an insurance goal.
In goal, junior Olivia DeGuire made 30 saves, including 14 in the third period. In front of DeGuire, sophomore Jayne Debejian tallied a game-high four blocks, followed by first year Emma DeMan with three and Smith with two.
The Mustangs return next semester, starting with a series at King's College on January 5th and 6th. Their first home series of 2024 is set for January 12th and 13th against Utica University for a 3 p.m. puck drop on both days.
