OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Facing elimination in the fourth set against Susquehanna, the Stevenson University women's volleyball team rallied to win the fourth set 31-29 and took the fifth set 15-5 in a 3-2 triumph over the River Hawks on Friday night.
Stevenson (21-6) wrapped up its regular season with three straight wins in a slugfest with Susquehanna (9-18).
Set scores in the first three sets were 25-20 in favor of the River Hawks, 29-27 in favor of Stevenson and 25-18 in the third set for Susquehanna.
Kylie DesLauriers got hot in the fourth set, and helped to propel the Mustangs into the fifth and deciding set. She finished the night with 13 kills and swung .176.
Rileigh Kimball had a team-high 22 kills on 42 attempts (.357), while
Darian Dildy had 12 kills on 23 attempts (.304).
Makala Thompson had 27 assists with
Samantha Simmers netting 21.
Defensively,
Kayla Vaeth had 22 digs with DesLauriers getting 16 and Kimball netting 14.
Haley Hoover had one solo blocks and five block assists with
Giulia Viglietta getting three block assists.
With the weekend off, Stevenson now turns its sights on the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth semifinals at home on Wednesday night, as the Mustangs host Messiah in the 2/3 game. Stevenson defeated Messiah, 3-1, in the team's lone meeting earlier this year.
