Men's Basketball drops non-conference contest to Cal Lutheran, 78-74

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University men's basketball dropped a non-conference decision to California Lutheran on Tuesday night, 78-74.
 
The Mustangs (2-3) got 14 points from Cameron Sapienza off the bench, with Rasheed Cooley adding in 12 and Cameron Smith netting 11. Nate Arrington also scored ten, as the Mustangs – despite the loss – shot 51.9 percent from the field (28-for-54) and 8-for-17 from the three-point line.
 
California Lutheran – in town for a three-game East Coast trip – saw Devon Lewis score 31 points and Tommy Griffitts add in 14.
 
The Kingsmen won the game on the glass, holding 42-24 edge in rebounding with a 16-2 advantage on the offensive side.
 
Cal Lutheran jumped out to an 11-0 lead early in the first half, before Stevenson battled back to within one at 11-10 on a three-pointer by Joey Lutz. A Sapienza three-pointer at the 13:27 mark knotted the score at 13-all.
 
The Mustangs took its first lead at 29-28 with 4:21 left in the first half on a jumper by Myles Jackson. Stevenson held the lead at 32-30 – on a three pointer by Zach Bolgert – with 3:21 left in the first half.
 
However, the Kingsmen closed the half on a 6-0 run to take a 36-32 lead at intermission.
 
Bolgert's layup with 15:01 left in the game tied the score at 42-all, but the Mustangs would not get any closer.
 
Stevenson has a long layup, before heading to St. Joseph's of Brooklyn next Saturday.
