COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Two touchdowns in the third quarter allowed Ursinus (8-3) to pull away from Stevenson (7-4) as the Bears defeated the Mustangs 31-13 in the 2023 MAC-Centennial Bowl on Saturday.
The Bears – who gained 475 yards on the day – saw Jalen Bradford toss three touchdowns, and run for one on the day
For Stevenson – making its ninth straight postseason appearance –
Nyaire Wilson threw for 129 on 11-for-17 passing, throwing a 6-yard scoring pass to
Tylor Blake. Blake had two catches for a team-high 74 yards.
Louis Clouser ran for 74 yards, while
Maurice Hammond had a rushing TD.
Defensively,
JanMichael Finch had ten tackles, with
Clarence Travis and
Justin Rutkowski each having nine.
Anthony Russo had two pass breakups.
Ursinus scored its first points of the day after intercepting a Wilson pass, then going 42 yards in three plays with Bradford rushing for a 16-yard score with 9:35 left.
Ursinus went up 14-0 after going 66 yards in 15 plays with Bradford throwing. 12 yard scoring pass to Ryder Zulkowski with 37 seconds left in the first quarter.
A Jordan Carr field goal – from 22 yards out – with 10:42 left in the second gave Ursinus a 17-0 lead.
Stevenson scored on its next drive, going 88 yards in five plays with Hammond rushing from 4 yards out with 8:16 left in the second quarter. The big play was a 68-yard pass play from Wilson to Blake.
Blake would get the Mustangs within four at 17-13 as he caught his scoring pass with 2:01 left in the first half capping a 71-yard, nine-play drive.
Ursinus scored its first drive of the second half, with Bradford throwing a 55-yard pass to Markel Roberts Jackson with 13:39 left and a 24-13 lead. The Bears went up 31-13 after scoring on its next drive, a 1-yard pass from Bradford to Ryan Bodolus.
