ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Stevenson University women's volleyball team fell short in its bid for a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Conference crown on Saturday as Eastern (27-3) defeated the Mustangs (22-7) 3-0.
Set scores were 25-18, 25-23 and 25-14.
For the Mustangs,
Rileigh Kimball had a team-high eight kills, while
Kylie DesLauriers had seven.
Darian Dildy added in five.
Makala Thompson had 14 assists, with
Samantha Simmers getting nine.
Kayla Vaeth had 17 digs, with Dildy getting one solo blocks and assisting on three others.
Trailing 7-1 in the first set, Stevenson muscled its way back into it by getting to within two at 12-10 as
Giulia Viglietta had a pair of kills during the run. The Mustangs stayed within two at 16-14, before Eastern went up 19-14 and won the first set 25-18.
The second set almost went Stevenson's way as the Mustang led late, holding a 22-21 lead on a kill by Kimball. Trailing 24-22, a kill from Kimball put the Mustangs with one at 24-23 but they dropped the set 25-23.
In the third set, Stevenson would get the first point on a block by Dildy. However, Eastern scored the next seven and never trailed.
Stevenson will have to wait to see if it receives an at-large selection to the NCAA tournament, which will be announced on Monday.
