OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Stevenson women's soccer surrendered an early goal before Ursinus opened the floodgates in the latter stages of the second half as part of a 4-0 setback on Sunday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.
Ursinus (2-0-0) notched its second consecutive nonconference shutout victory against a team from the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth.
Morgan Raley fired home a pair of goals on four shots, coming in the third and 79th minutes for the Bears. Hannah Brainsky added a goal 86th minute, while Ciara Rago capped the scoring in the 88th minute. Overall, Ursinus collected three goals in just under nine minutes with a 16-6 edge in shots.
Stevenson (0-2-0) once again struggled to connect the dots on the offensive end, but received a valiant defensive effort from goalkeeper Courtney Wysokowski. The junior keeper posted six saves, including several acrobatic stops that kept the Stevenson deficit to just one goal before Ursinus eventually broke through.
Ursinus wasted little time opening the scoring just over two minutes into the contest, dictating possession for most of the opening half. Raley scored on the afternoon's first shot, finishing a pass from Carlie Shiller for a 1-0 Ursinus lead and the lone goal of the first half.
Samantha Wilson ripped consecutive scoring chances wide left, coming less than 30 seconds apart in the 16th and 17th minutes for Stevenson in response. Michelle Mesquita and Katie Kocent also had shot attempts soar wide left as Stevenson pushed for the equalizer.
The visiting Bears continued pressing forward on the attack, forcing Mustang goalkeeper Courtney Wysokowski to make four saves in the opening stanza. While the Mustangs worked some passing combinations in the attacking half, the Bears quickly quelled any quality scoring looks.
Meanwhile, Ursinus had additional scoring chances ring off the crossbar and far left post. Raley registered three shots in the opening half, while Wilson paced the Mustangs with two shots.
The level of intensity increased in the second half with several whistles on each side. Kamille Purcell ran underneath a looping pass and flicked an attempt into the waiting arms of Ursinus goalkeeper Kaela Frechman in the 50th minute.
Wysokowski charged forward for a diving stop after Olivia Losurdo dribbled free in the 18-yard box in the 58th minute. Following a misplayed ball in the slot, Wysokowski made another sterling save in the 65th minute, which kept the score at 1-0 despite a scoring chance from Alex Chalmers.
Jaiden Williams laid a long stretch pass along the turf with Shania Hyatt positioning herself for a quick opportunity in the 76th minute for the Mustangs.
Raley added an insurance marker for Ursinus on her fourth shot of the game off a bouncing ball that slotted into the left side of the cage in the 79th minute before Brainsky and Rago rounded out the scoring. Chalmers added our shots for the Bears while Frenchman snared a pair of saves for the visiting Bears.
