Box Score 2 Center Valley, Pa. – The Stevenson women's volleyball team (3-0) defeated Vassar (0-3) and DeSales(2-1), each in straight-sets at Billera Hall. The Mustangs begin their season 3-0 for the third consecutive season.
Match 1 against Vassar
Stevenson defeated Vassar in straight sets with set scores 25-15, 25-19 and 25-18.
Shannon Baily led the floor in scoring with 11 kills.
The Brewers jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first set before
Shannon Baily notched a kill to halt the early Vassar momentum. The two sides traded points before a Stevenson 7-1 run gave the Mustangs the lead at the 7-10 mark. Stevenson continued its momentum with a five-point surge on the heels of two
Kayla Vaeth aces to a 15-8 advantage. Stevenson finished the set on a 7-2 streak with balanced scoring, adding kills from
Molly Joyner,
Haley Hoover, and
Kylie DesLauriers to take the frame 15-15.
In the second set, Stevenson sprinted to a 5-0 lead with kills from
Rileigh Kimball and
Shannon Baily. Vassar charged back and notched the match at 10-10 with a 5-1 run of its own. The sides traded points before 7-2 Brewers run gave a 19-18 advantage to Vassar. Stevenson surged, taking the final seven points of the frame with kills from
Giulia Viglietta and Kimball to take the middle set 15-19.
In the final frame, Stevenson leveraged a 12-6 advantage with back-to-back kills from
Adrianna Anderson and
Shannon Baily.
Kylie DesLauriers added a kill to move the set the Mustang pace at 20-12. Vassar narrowed the lead to 24-18 with a three-point rally but the Stevenson lead was too much to overcome. The Mustangs took the final set 25-18.
Match 2 against DeSales
Stevenson defeated DeSales in straight sets with set scores of 25-20, 26-24 and 25-15.
Shannon Baily notched 11 more kills to lead the floor, followed closely by
Sarah Straub with nine.
Both sides battled in the early stage of the first frame before the Mustangs could leverage a 9-7 lead with a kill from Kylie DesLaurers. The Bulldogs battled back to notch the set at 10 a-piece before a three-point run gave them an 11-13 lead. Stevenson responded with a 7-1 run kills from
Haley Hoover,
Molly Joyner and DesLauriers, sauntering to an 18-14 lead.
Samantha Simmers notched a kill to move the advantage to 22-18. Stevenson finished the frame on a 4-1 run to take the opening set 25-20.
The middle stanza was tightly contested with 10 tie scores.
Haley Hoover notched an ace to give Stevenson the narrow 9-7 advantage. DeSales overtook the Mustang lead at the 13-14 mark before Hoover sent home a kill to notch the frame. The sides traded points before back-to-back kills from DesLauriers followed by an ace from Joyner gave Stevenson a 19-15 lead. Stevenson carried a narrow advantage to the 24-22 mark with a kill from
Sarah Straub before DeSales notched the frame at 24. Stevenson leveraged Bulldog errors to take the final two points of the set for a 26-24 victory.
The Mustangs carried their momentum to the final frame, steaming to a 9-3 lead with kills from Straub, Hoover and Kimball. The Bulldogs halted the momentum with a three-point run to the 9-6 mark. The Mustangs embarked on a 7-point run with kills from Straub and Baily and an ace from
Makala Thompson to the 19-10 mark. The Bulldogs made a final surge with a four-point run but the Mustang lead was too much to overcome. Stevenson took the final set 25-15.
