No. 13 Falcons Fly Past Mustangs

GRANTHAM, Pa.- The Stevenson women's basketball team fell, 74-46 to No. 13 Messiah after just totaling seven points in the second and fourth quarters.

  • The Mustangs started off hot to start the first quarter against Messiah. Aysia Ferguson sunk a three just four seconds into the game. 
  • Minutes later at the 8:51 minute mark, Stevenson led, 5-0 after Ferguson put up a jumper. 
  • Stevenson pulled ahead, 7-0 after two free throws from Kellie Johnson before Messiah got on the board with a layup at the 7:37 minute mark. 
  • Olivia Coleman got in on the action as she went in for a layup to extend the Mustangs lead to 9-4. 
  • Messiah took over the lead at the 4:05 minute mark after a Falcon's three-pointer. 
  • Michelle Mesquita ended the first quarter with a free throw as Stevenson trailed by four, 18-14. 

  • Stevenson brought their momentum into the second quarter as K. Johnson opened in the shooting with a three at the 9:20 minute mark. 
  • The Falcons pulled ahead by five after making a jump shot at the 8:30 minute mark. 
  • Laci Johnson joined in on the shooting as she brought the Mustangs within one of Messiah. The Falcons led, 22-21. 
  • Messiah came out to their largest lead of the game at 30-21 at the 1:52 minute mark following a three-pointer. 
  • Messiah continued with their lead to end the quarter after two free throws with just over a minute remaining. The Falcons led, 32-21 going into halftime. 

  • K. Johnson started off the third quarter with a jumper at the 9:24 minute mark as the Mustangs trailed by ten. 
  • For the next couple of minutes, the two teams traded points as the Mustangs tried to play catchup. 
  • At the 6:00 minute mark, L. Johnson assisted Coleman for two with Messiah leading, 38-27. 
  • The Falcons continued to pull ahead of the Mustangs, following a Messiah jumper, the Falcons led, 53-37. Messiah kept it rolling as they led, 57-39 to end the third quarter. 

  • At the 6:38 minute mark, Ferguson sunk two free throws as Stevenson trailed, 64-43. 
  • With just over three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Emori Jeselskis put up a three before Messiah responded right back with a layup.
  • Messiah finished up the game with a layup to win, 74-46 with forty seconds remaining. 

  • Coleman led the team with 10 points and eight rebounds. 
  • Ferguson and K. Johnson each added nine points. K. Johnson also added four rebounds. 
  • Stevenson shot .274 from the floor while Messiah shot an impressive .537. 
  • Messiah outrebounded Stevenson, 41-33. 
  • The Mustangs totaled 13 turnovers while causing 16 Messiah turnovers.
