Mustangs Bounce Back to Defeat Chatham, 3-1

PITTSBURGH, Pa.- Stevenson women's hockey bounced back after yesterday's overtime loss at Chatham. Stevenson won, 3-1 as Nikki Kendrick netted two goals while Trinity Barcless added one. 

  • Stevenson held control to start off the game and at the 8:38 minute mark, Barcless scored the first goal of the game. 
  • For the next several minutes both teams traded shots. The Cougars gained momentum as they fired off five shots. Four were saved by goalie, Olivia DeGuire while one was blocked by Barcless. 
  • At the 14:09 minute mark, a penalty was called on Chatham to give the Mustangs a power-play opportunity. A minute and 30 seconds later the Mustangs were penalized to end the opportunity. 
  • At the 17:25 minute mark, Hannah Labbe added two shots but one was saved by Cougars goalie, Katy Reed and the other went wide. 
  • Stevenson ended the period with three more shots and a 1-0 lead over Chatham. 

  • The Mustangs started off the second period with Barcless winning the faceoff. About two minutes into the period, Karly Aguirre took two shots but was unable to find the back of the net. 
  • Chatham gained possession and at the 13:27 minute mark, the Cougars tied up the game at 1-1. 
  • At the 16:21 minute mark, Chatham had a power-play opportunity. During the two minutes, the Cougars fired off six shots during the play. 

  • To start off the third period, Stevenson took four consecutive shots. 
  • At the 12:10 minute mark, Stevenson had a power-play opportunity. After a shot by Kendrick that was blocked at the 14:03 minute mark, Kendrick was able to capitalize for a power-play goal. 
  • About a minute and 30 seconds later, Kendrick added her second goal of the game to give Stevenson a 3-1 lead. 
  • Stevenson's Cassie Campbell ended the game with two shots but both were saved by Cougars goalie, Reed. 

  • Stevenson moves to third in the UCHC standings behind, Nazareth and Utica. Chatham moves to fifth in the UCHC standings. 
  • DeGuire made 29 saves in the net for the Mustangs.
  • Stevenson went 1 for 6 on power-plays while Chatham was 0 for 3. 
  • The Mustangs just outshot the Cougars, 37-30 as Stevenson took 17 shots in the final frame. 
  • Barcless moves her goal streak to three games as she scored against Lebanon Valley and then both games against Chatham. 

  • Stevenson travels to Manhattanville next weekend for their final away games of the season. The Mustangs will first face the Valliant's on Friday, February 11 at 3:30 pm.
