Mustangs Fall 3-2 to Chatham in Heartbreak Overtime

PITTSBURGH, Pa.- The Stevenson women's hockey team battled back in the third period with two goals to tie up the game at 2-2 but ultimately fell, 3-2 in overtime. 

  • To start off the game, Chatham held control as they scored the first goal of the game at the 7:19 minute mark. Just 20 seconds later, the Cougars Allison Corser-James put in her second goal of the game. 
  • At the 15:15 minute mark, the Mustangs Nikki Kendrick and Hannah Labbe each fired off a shot, but it was saved by Cougar goalie, Katy Reed. 
  • After Stevenson won the faceoff, Elizabeth Gaudreau recorded a shot on goal but it was saved by the Chatham goalie. 
  • Chatham ended the period with two more shots and up 2-0 on the scoreboard. 

  • The Cougars started off the second period with possession as they won four faceoffs and took four shots within the first three minutes. 
  • At the 4:12 minute mark, Chatham received the first penalty of the game. The Mustangs were able to get off three shots during the power-play but were unsuccessful in finding the back of the net. 
  • Just as the Chatham penalty ended, Stevenson received a penalty to give the Cougars a shot on the power-play. 
  • Throughout the second period, Chatham held a stronger possession winning 17 of the 25 faceoffs. Both teams were about even in shots as the Cougars totaled, 18 while Stevenson added 19 shots. 

  • Stevenson got back to their scoring ways as Trinity Barcless netted her first of two goals of the game at the 2:55 minute mark to start the third period. 
  • Minutes later the Cougars held on to the puck taking four shots on goal. Three shots were saved by goalie, Olivia DeGuire while the other was blocked by Megan Swick
  • About ten minutes later at the 17:28 minute mark, Tea Ferrara assisted Barcless for a power-play goal and the Mustangs second to tie up the game at two apiece. 
  • To end the period, Karly Aquirre and Ally Gibson took shots on goal but were unable to find the back of the net. 
  • With the Mustang's two third-period goals, the teams were forced into overtime and went through nearly the full five minutes before Chatham scored at the 3:51 minute mark. 

  • With a Mustang penalty at the 2:28 minute mark in the overtime period, the Cougars were able to gain control and momentum as Cougars, Corser-James netted a hat-trick by sliding the puck just past DeGuire on the left side. 
  • The Mustangs appeared in their third overtime game of the season and move are 1-2 in overtime games. 

  • Barcless netted both goals for the Mustangs and keeps up her scoring momentum as she leads the team with 13 goals on the season. 
  • Stevenson outshot Chatham, 39-34. 
  • DeGuire made 31 saves in goal. 
  • The Mustangs move to 10-9, 9-6 UCHC. 

  • Stevenson is back at it tomorrow at Chatham to finish up their series. Puck drop is a 2:00 PM.
