Box Score REISTERSTOWN, Md.- The Stevenson women's hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to visiting Chatham on Wednesday afternoon in the UCHC Quarterfinal.
Chatham jumped ahead in the first period with just three seconds remaining. Brooke Almond assisted Ally Nolan for her 21st goal of the season. The Mustangs remained scoreless until the third period.
The Cougars doubled their lead in the first 20 seconds of the second period as Allison Corser-James scored her 15th goal of the season. At the 5:15 minute mark, Ally Gibson and Tea Ferrara took shots on goal but both were saved by Cougars goalie, Katy Reed.
While Stevenson won most of the faceoffs in the second period, Chatham still held control as they scored their third goal of the game with seconds remaining. On a Stevenson power-play Chatham scored their third goal of the game. Ally Nolan scored a short-handed goal at the 19:53 minute mark.
Chatham was successful in the penalty kill as at the 6:29 minute mark in the third period, the Mustangs were only able to get off one shot. The Cougars scored their second short-handed goal of the game at the 13:04 minute with about 30 seconds remaining in the Stevenson power-play.
Following a faceoff won by Ferrara, Ferrara and Gibson assisted Katelyn Reid on the Mustang's lone goal. Chatham ended the third period by taking three more shots, all of which were saved by Olivia DeGuire.
Ferrara won 26 of her 29 faceoffs and the Mustangs won a total of 49 of the 63 faceoffs. DeGuire made 29 saves in the net for Stevenson. Chatham outshot Stevenson 33-28.
Chatham will move on to the UCHC semifinal this Saturday, February 26th.
