Mustangs Drop Close MAC Commonwealth Quarterfinal to Albright

OWINGS MILLS, Md.- The Stevenson women's basketball team dropped a 66-65 decision to visiting Albright in the MAC Commonwealth Quarterfinal, Wednesday evening.

Both teams started off the first quarter trading baskets with Stevenson taking an early 10-6 lead following an Olivia Coleman layup. At the 4:22 minute mark, Kellie Johnson sunk a three to give the Mustangs a 15-9 lead over Albright. The Mustangs and Lions continued to go back and forth through the first quarter, but Stevenson continued to hold the lead. Stevenson ended the first with a 21-16 lead. 

Morgan DeBeary opened the shooting for the Mustangs in the second quarter at the 9:43 minute mark with a layup. The Mustangs continued to hold their lead at 27-23 after a Lion jumper. Stevenson kept a four-point gap between Albright following a Morgan Pennick jump shot. At the 1:30 minute, Albright took over for a 32-31 lead after a jumper. The Lions ended the second with a 34-31 lead over the Mustangs. 

To start off the third quarter, both teams traded points through the halfway point with a 30-38 Mustang lead. After a back-and-forth battle, Stevenson held on to a one-point lead. At the 6:45 minute mark in the fourth quarter following a Laci Johnson layup, the Mustangs led, 57-54. The Mustangs jumped ahead 63-56 at the 3:50 minute mark after an Emori Jeselskis three-pointer. In the final two minutes of the quarter, Albright gained momentum and ultimately won by one point, 66-65. 

Coleman had a double-double as she totaled 17 points and 12 rebounds. Four different Mustangs recorded double digits. K. Johnson added 12 points while Pennick and DeBeary pitched in 11 points apiece. 

The Mustangs shot 40.6% from the floor while the Lions shot 42.6%. Albright held a slight 40-37 edge in rebounds.
