Box Score GRANTHAM, Pa. -- The Stevenson men's basketball team saw its season come to a close on Wednesday night, suffering a 73-50 road setback at Messiah on Wednesday night in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Quarterfinals.
Stevenson (11-12), the number five seed, was fresh off an overtime victory against Albright to close out the regular season. The Mustangs battled fourth-seeded Messiah (11-12) for a good chunk of the first half before the Falcons eventually expanded their lead to 33-22 at the halftime break while pulling away.
KJ Holton posted 11 points and four rebounds for Stevenson, while Bo Wesley posted 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks.
For the Falcons, Bryce Colletti poured in 20 points (8-11 FG) behind a perfect 4-for-4 night from deep. Arkeise Calaiborne notched 18 points and nine rebounds, while Will Young IV added 11 points and six boards.
Wednesday night marked the third meeting between the two squads, with a combined margin of victory from the previous two clashes of just four points.
Holton splashed home a three as the Mustangs trailed, 9-8, before the Falcons responded with an 18-6 scoring spurt. Down 27-14 with under five minutes left in the opening half, the Mustangs closed the frame with an 8-4 run. Wesley stuck a layup with 1:27 left in the first half as the Mustangs attempted to battle back.
Messiah, which led for over 93% of the game, rattled off a 15-3 run in the second half to pull ahead comfortably at just over five minutes into the stanza at 46-25. The Falcon lead hovered around 20 points for the remainder of the half with Stevenson unable to make a sizable dent into the deficit.
Stevenson went 32.3% from the floor and just 4-of-15 from beyond the arc. Messiah shot 48.3% from the field, canning seven of 17 triples.
Messiah advances to the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals, traveling to top-seeded Eastern on Friday, February 25.
