Mustangs Outlast Albright in Overtime

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Playing another game down to the wire throughout, Stevenson men's basketball held on for a 91-88 overtime victory against Albright on Saturday afternoon.

KJ Holton fired in 24 points off the bench to lead Stevenson (11-11, 7-9), adding three assists on the afternoon. McKale Williams added 21 points on Senior Day, while Merlon Devine notched 13 points and Khalil Richard had 12.

Stevenson finished the season as the five seed in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth tournament, with quarterfinal action getting underway this week. The Mustangs welcomed back 2020-21 seniors Evan Joseph and Tavon Randolph, recognizing the duo prior to tipoff. Additionally, the men's basketball program recognized the six seniors in Damon Koskovich, Williams, Devine, Richard, Drew Miller and Bo Wesley

Stevenson stretched its lead to four, 70-66, with just 1:42 remaining. After a quick steal and dunk for Albright (10-14, 6-10) tied the game, the Mustangs moved right back in front seconds later on a Merlon Devine basket at 1:18 in the back and forth clash. Down by two, the Lions had the ball with 12 seconds remaining as Robert Mangum drove in for a game-tying shot. The Mustangs opened the extra session with the initial five points, including a triple from Williams just 20 seconds in.

Jalin Jordan converted with a runout basket for an 82-75 advantage. Albright would not go quietly, battling back to within a pair at 84-82 before Richard expanded the lead once again for the hosts. Stevenson closed the game out at the foul line despite a corner three for Albright with just over 10 seconds left.

The Mustangs stormed out to a 13-4 advantage to begin the game, but Albright worked its way back in a slugfest of an opening half. Stevenson trailed by one at intermission but opened the second half strong in what amounted to a game of runs.

Stevenson shot 43.3% from the floor and received a total of 40 points from the bench.

The Mustangs visit fourth-seeded Messiah on Wednesday, February 23 at 8:00 p.m. Click here for the complete MAC Commonwealth tournament field and seedings.
