Surging Mustangs Post Historic OT Win Against Chatham

Box Score

REISTERSTOWN, Md. -- Continuing to cruise through the stretch run of the regular season, the Stevenson men's hockey team made history on multiple fronts in a 3-2 overtime triumph against Chatham on Tuesday afternoon inside the Reisterstown Sportsplex.

Stevenson (17-5-1, 13-3) matched its longest winning streak in program history at eight games, while senior captain Ryan Patrick became the school's all-time points leader with his close-quarters goal at 9:12 in the second period. The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead midway through the second period, but Chatham (8-11-2, 7-7-2) chipped away before tying the score with just five seconds remaining in regulation.

Holding a big statistical edge in the contest, Stevenson was whistled for several penalties, which allowed the Cougars to build some momentum. On the flip side, Stevenson could not cash in on five chances with the man advantage. When all was said and done, it was the Mustangs who continued their dominance in the all-time series with Chatham.

Malcolm Palmer posted the lone goal of the opening period, finishing off a shot at the 5:32 mark of the stanza for a 1-0 Stevenson lead. Chad Watt and Graeme McCrory continued their solid stretch of play for the Mustangs by adding assists on the opening tally of the rescheduled afternoon matchup.

Patrick broke the school's all-time points record at 85 after charging in from the goal line and making a quick move to the backhand, pushing the Mustangs ahead at 2-0.

Chatham found the back of the net with the man advantage at 16:50 in the second on a shot from Michael Lamison. Down 2-1 going into the third, Chatham struggled to get much going throughout much of the third.

With the goalie pulled, the Cougars did just enough to squeak a puck over the line and level the score at two with just five seconds remaining.

After some up and down action during the three-on-three overtime session, the Mustangs continued their late-game heroics, this time provided by Mac Lowry. Just 2:29 into overtime, Lowry deflected a pass in front from Liam McCanney into the goal for the 3-2 final.

Ryan Kenny provided another strong performance in goal for the Mustangs with 23 stops on 25 shots. Meanwhile, Ricardo Gonzalez turned aside 41 shots on the afternoon.
