Box Score RYE, N.Y.- Stevenson women's hockey fell short at Manhattanville, Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs fell, 3-1 after Nikki Kendrick scored on a power-play in the third period.
Olivia DeGuire had another big day in the net as she made 35 saves for the Mustangs.
Manhattanville got off to a good start as they scored at the 6:20 minute mark following a shot that was saved by DeGuire. At the 11:15 minute mark, the Mustangs had a power-play opportunity, but the Valliant's were successful in the penalty kill. Stevenson shot off five shots during the play. Manhattanville ended the period with possession and led, 1-0.
Tea Ferrara won the faceoff to open the second period before Emily Brightbill fired off a shot, but it was saved by Manhattanville goalie, Franny Gerardi. Around the same time as the first-period goal, the Valliant's doubled their lead at the 6:25 minute mark on a power-play. Stevenson and Manhattanville went back and forth exchanging shots but neither could find the back of the net as the second period ended with a 2-0 Manhattanville lead.
The Mustangs got back their momentum in the final period as they held control. In a span of three minutes, Stevenson racked up seven shots before scoring at the 13:28 minute mark. Ferrara and Elizabeth Gaudreau assisted Kendrick on the power-play goal. About five minutes later, the Valliant's were back on the board to take a 3-1 lead. With just a minute remaining, Paige Sullivan took one final shot but it went wide. Manhattanville added two more shots to close out the game but both were saved by DeGuire.
GAME NOTES
- Kendrick tallied her fourth goal of the season while Ferrara added her seventh assist and Gaudreau added her sixth.
- Stevenson won, 25 of 43 faceoffs.
- Stevenson went 1 for 4 in power-plays while Manhattanville went 1 for 2 in power-plays.
