DeGuire Records Career High 45 Saves as Manhattanville Blanks Mustangs

RYE, N.Y.- The Stevenson women's hockey team fell, 3-0 at Manhattanville in the Playland Ice Casino Friday afternoon. First-year goalie, Olivia Deguire recorded a career-high 45 saves in the net.

Manhattanville was off to a strong start taking 15 shots within the first ten minutes of the game. At the 15:39 minute mark, a penalty was called on the Mustangs. About 20 seconds later, Manhattanville was able to score on the power-play to take a 1-0 lead in the first period. Only three minutes later another penalty was called on Stevenson and again Manhattanville was able to capitalize on the power-play. Manhattanville held possession for the majority of the period as Stevenson only took two shots on goal. 

The third period was scoreless for both teams, but Stevenson had more opportunities at the net. At the 3:02 minute mark, the Mustangs had a power-play opportunity. Nikki Kendrick fired off two shots during the play but one was saved by Valiant goalie, Franny Gerardi and the other was blocked. The Mustangs continued to get off shots as Ally Gibson added two shots at the 9:00 minute mark but both were saved by Manhattanville's Gerardi. In the final four minutes of the period, the Mustangs were given two more power-play opportunities but once again Manhattanville was successful in the penalty kill. Stevenson got off six more shots to end the second period but was unsuccessful in finding the back of the net. 

To start off the final period, Tea Ferrara won the opening faceoff to give Stevenson possession. Ferrara, Gibson, Kendrick, and Breanna Crosson took shots in the first minute. At the 3:12 minute mark, Manhattanville started a power-play opportunity. While the Valiants took five shots, they were unable to score. Minutes later, Stevenson was again successful in a penalty kill. Midway through the third period at the 11:58 minute mark, Manhattanville scored their third goal of the game to lead, 3-0. Throughout the rest of the period, Manhattanville held strong getting off ten more shots to end the period. 

Numbers and Notes: 

  • Olivia DeGuire made 45 saves in the net for a career/season-high. 
  • Ferrara won 10 of her 23 faceoffs. 
  • Stevenson went 0 for 4 on power-plays while Manhattanville went 2 for 6 on power-plays. 
  • Manhattanville outshot Stevenson, 48 to 21. 
  • Stevenson falls to 11-10 overall and 10-7 in the UCHC.
