First Half
In an early substitution off the bench, junior guard
Ethan Jones opened the Mustangs' scoring with a driving layup in Stevenson's conference game at Widener University on Wednesday. The Pride then opened a 12-2 lead as a series of Mustangs missed shots forced coach Gary Stewart to call a timeout at the 15-minute mark. From there, sophomore forward
Cameron Smith hit the next three shots, but the deficit remained 10 points through the rest of the half as the Pride went into halftime ahead 24-14.

Second Half
Thanks to a Conner Walsh three and a Smith layup, the Mustangs clawed back, trailing 28-26 four minutes into the half. Senior guard
KJ Holton, back in action, gave the Mustangs their first lead since the beginning of the game as he sunk a layup, putting Stevenson up 31-30 with 13 minutes remaining. A Smith steal sent him in all alone for a dunk at 10:01, increasing Stevenson's lead to 40-34, bringing the bench to their feet. Six minutes later under the basket,
Nate Arrington increased the lead to 50-43 before an injured Widener player forced an injury timeout. From there, the Mustangs locked down defensively, allowing only eight points in the remaining six minutes for the 63-48 win.

Following the win, Stevenson improves to 6-3 (1-2 in the conference) as they earn their first conference win on the season. They are next set to travel to Daytona Beach, Florida, to participate in the Daytona Beach Shootout. The Mustangs will first take on Simpson College on Monday, Dec 19 with tipoff set for 7 p.m. Widener falls to 6-3 (2-1) and will travel to Eastern University on Saturday, Dec. 10 for a 3 p.m. game.
