DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Stevenson women's basketball team completed their showing at the Daytona Beach Shootout, adding a second loss to their record from their Tuesday game against the Wild Cats of Randolph College.
SU sophomore guard
Laci Johnson continued to demonstrate leader status, topping the team with nine points on the afternoon. Senior forward
Maleah Smith also solidified her place with seven total rebounds against the Wild Cats. Sophomore guard
Emori Jeselskis followed with two made from four attempted three-pointers and four total turnovers, just behind senior guard
Aysia Ferguson's lead with five turnovers total. The Wild Cats had two players score 14 points each with 44 rebounds against the Mustangs' 40.
FIRST QUARTER
The Mustangs scored early, tying the game four times as the clock ticked on. The Wild Cats gained an advantage, scoring five points off a successful lay-up and three made free throws, both made by senior guard Jessica Jennings. The Mustangs rounded out the quarter with eight points to the Wild Cats' 13 total.
SECOND QUARTER
The Mustangs were not able to record another tie in the second, but worked to close the gap, scoring eight more points. Jeselskis secured a successful three-pointer early in the quarter, but the gap continued to widen. Johnson and Ferguson added points followed by a free throw from first year guard
Erin Dixon. The Wild Cats continued their offensive push, securing a 13-point lead by the half.
THIRD QUARTER
The Mustangs looked to gain some traction, securing 11 points in the third, but the Wild Cats were resilient, increasing the gap to a 17-point lead by the end of the quarter. SU senior guard
Morgan Pennick scored early, followed by a successful jump shot from first year forward
Kalea Wynter. Johnson, sophomore forward
Stephenae Lawrence and Jeselskis added points, bringing the Mustangs' total to 27 to the Wild Cats' 44.
FOURTH QUARTER
The Mustangs broke 40 points in the final quarter of the game, putting 17 more points on the board. Jeselskis, Johnson, and Pennick had one successful three pointer each, but the Wild Cats' lead remained secured, as they ended the game 64-44.

The Mustangs break for the holidays, returning to the court in the new year on Monday, Jan. 2 against Elizabethtown College at 7 p.m. The Wildcats continue in the Daytona Beach Shootout with a Thursday game against Maryville College at 3 p.m.
