Arrington leads men's basketball to 72-67 victory over Kenyon

Box Score Daytona Beach, Fl. - Sophomore forward Nate Arrington led the Mustangs to a 72-67 victory over the Kenyon College Owls with a double-double Tuesday night in the second game of the Daytona Beach Shootout.
 
First Half
Arrington led the Mustangs in the first 10 minutes of the first half, sinking six points and grabbing five rebounds before sophomore forward Cameron Smith extended Stevenson's lead to 25-18 with a three pointer at 7:42. Kenyon went on a 7-0 run to claw back trailing only 25-24, before two free throws by the Owls' Gefen Bar-Cohen recaptured the lead for Kenyon with six minutes remaining. The final minutes concluded with back-and-forth action and Kenyon held onto the one-point lead going into the break, 36-35.

Second Half
Both teams made a basket following a pair of misses for both sides before SU graduate student guard McKale Williams hit a three pointer, his first of the night, getting the lead back for the Mustangs. However, the Owls held Stevenson scoreless for over three minutes, stretching a lead of their own to 48-42 before Williams put in a layup 7:23 into the half. Senior guard Davon Jones tied the game at 52-52 three minutes later, with a pair of free throws before technical fouls were dealt to Stevenson junior guard Ethan Jones and Kenyon's Kamal Aubakirov. The Mustangs extended the lead to seven and held off the Owls as the visitors' fouls piled up for Kenyon in the final minute.

With the victory on the second day of the Daytona Beach shootout, the Mustangs improve to 7-4 overall (1-2 in the MAC). Stevenson will return to action at home on Friday, Dec. 30 at 3 p.m. as they host Elizabethtown. The Owls drop to 6-5 and will take on Marymount University on Wednesday, Dec. 21 with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
