Owings Mills, Md. - The Stevenson men's basketball team opens their 2022-23 regular season as they travel to Catholic University Tuesday, Nov. 8, with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 pm. The Mustangs come into the season ranked sixth in the MAC Commonwealth coaches pool and will look to go deeper into the playoffs than last year. 

A Look Back

The Mustangs finished the 2021-22 season with a 11-12 (6-9 MAC) record, losing in the MAC Commonwealth quarterfinals to 4th ranked Messiah 73-50. Senior Khalil Richard led the team in points (303), free throw percentage (.868), and steals (25). Bo Wesley led the squad in total rebounds (132) with 89 defensive rebounds and FG percentage going 66-110 (.600). 

The Team

The Mustangs welcome eight first years, one transfer (Walsh) and one sophomore (Tyson) to the 2022-23 squad. The team saw the court in a preseason exhibition game at Loyola (Md.) last Tuesday.

Scouting Catholic

Catholic finished the 2021-22 with a record of 17-7 overall and 10-4 in Landmark Conference play. The Cardinals look forward to having their top four points scorers return this season. Jesse Hafemeister (18.9), Tommy Kelly (14.0), Jake Timby (11.1) and Colby Martins (8.1). Catholic as won all nine matchups with the Mustangs dating back to 1997 when Stevenson was known as Villa Julie College. The Mustangs score an average of 63.11 points against the Cardinals.
