Mustangs Victorious in First Conference Win Over Blazers, 73-55

Box Score FREDERICK, Md. – Stevenson women's basketball completed their first Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth game of the winter 2022-23 season as they topped the Hood College Blazers 73-55 at the Volpe Athletic Center Wednesday evening.
 
First Quarter
First year guard Erin Dixon notched a three-pointer to help secure a lead for the Mustangs. Both teams battled as the clock ticked on with Stevenson finishing on top, 17-15, at the quarter.
 
Second Quarter
The Blazers tied the match 27-27 with around four minutes left, but the Mustangs remained steadfast as first year forward Tessa Boswell notched a quarter-ending three-pointer, giving the Mustangs a nine-point lead, 41-32.
 
Third Quarter
The  third quarter saw the Mustangs giving up some of their lead, as the Blazers inched closer, 45-43 halfway through. However, with around five minutes left, the Mustangs increased their lead to 51-43, and then to a 15-point lead, 60-45, as the clock ticked on. Boswell closed the quarter with a buzzer beater, as the quarter ended 62-45.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Mustangs wasted no time notching points in the final quarter with senior guard Morgan Pennick laying up a shot for two points. The Mustangs remained on top 69-53. A late-quarter layup from sophomore guard Emori Jeselskis brought the game to 71-55, and Stevenson finished with their first conference win of the season, 73-55.
 
UP NEXT
The Mustangs improve to 2-3 overall, notching the first conference win, while the Blazers finish with a 2-4 overall record (0-1 in conference). The Mustangs look to conference play again as they return home this Saturday, Dec. 3, for a tipoff against Alvernia University at 1 p.m. in the Owings Mills gymnasium. The Blazers travel to conference opponent Albright College this Saturday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m.
