RYE, N.Y. – After recording a program record in goals the last time out, the Stevenson men's ice hockey team (3-4, 2-3 UCHC) were held scoreless in a 2-0 loss to Manhattanville (3-2, 3-2 UCHC) Friday night at the Playland Ice Casino.
In the opening period, Stevenson was able to muster four shots on goal wot the Valiants eight. Both goaltenders stopped all of the shots they faced, despite a power play opportunity for each team.
Stevenson picked up the pace in the second period, taking 12 shots in the frame alone while the Valiants took just five. However, Manhattanville earned the game's first goal at the 11:11 mark in the second period when Hayden Taylor found the back of the net with assists from Josh Fletcher and Corey Popowcer. The Mustangs earned a power play opportunity due to a delay of game but only one shot found its way to the cage while two others were blocked by Valiant skaters. Stevenson continued its offensive push, taking four more shots in remaining minutes of the period but were unable to find the tying goal.
In the third period, Manhattanville out-shot the Mustangs 8-10. In a two minut span, the Mustangs ripped five shots blocked by Manhattanville skaters with one more being saved by Sebastian Woods. Raymond Spencer added the final tally for Manhattanville at 16:59 with assists from Troy Crosson and Mitchell Watson. With the net empty and a power play chance in the waning minutes of the game, Stevenson gave one final push to get on the board but were unable put a goal home.
