Lewis Racks Up 121 Return Yards as Mustangs Fall to King’s (Pa.)

Box Score WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Stevenson first-year Jakari Lewis totaled 121 yards on kick retunrs as the Stevenson football team fell 7-20 to MAC opponent King's (Pa.) Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium. With the loss, the Mustangs drop to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the MAC while King's improves to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in MAC play.
 
How it Happened
  • Justice Pettus-Dixon recovered a fourth down fumble by the King's running back at the Stevenson 14-yard line to put an end to a 13-play, 64-yard drive and pick up the game's first turnover.
  • Forcing another Stevenson three-and-out, King's jumped on the board first with a 34-yard field goal from Kyle Prescavage to cap a 7-play, 20-yard drive.
  • A 91-yard drive for the Monarchs resulted in a 4-yard touchdown run from Jayon Hailey to raise the King's lead to 10-0 with 3:34 remaining in the first half.
  • Jakari Lewis returned the ensuing kickoff 39-yards to the King's 45 for the first Mustang trip to Monarch territory.
  • Maurice Hammond found paydirt with a 1-yard touchdown run to put the Mustangs on the board and bring them within one score of the King's lead. The run capped a 10-play, 45-yard drive.
  • Following a scoreless third quarter, King's increased its lead to 7-17 with a one-yard touchdown run by Shemar Ellis
  • The Monarchs added a 26-yard field goal to increase their lead to 7-20 with 6:00 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Numbers and Notes
  • Jakari Lewis totaled 121 yards on five returns including a 39-yard kickoff return to set up a Mustang touchdown. Lewis added one reception for eight yards.
  • Maurice Hammond continued to lead the ground attack for the Mustangs with 12 carries for 45 yards and a touchdown.
  • Emanuel Ekop, Jr. added four receptions for 48 yards while Brandon Booze added 25 yards on three catches.
  • Clarence Travis had a career-high 18 total tackles.
  • Demetrius Salley added another 10 tackles, just one shy of tying a career high.

  • The Mustangs remain on the road traveling to Lycoming on Saturday October 15. Kickoff is slated for 12pm.
