Owings Mills, Md. – The Stevenson University football team (7-2, 4-2 MAC) defeated Misericordia University (2-6, 1-5 MAC) 44-7 on Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field on the Misericordia campus.
How it Happened
- The Mustangs' Jakari Lewis returned the opening kickoff 49 nine yards down to the Misericordia 36-yard line. After three completed passes by Ryan Sedgwick and a rush by Brandon Walker, Sedgwick put the first points on the board with a 14-yard touchdown run.
- Clarence Travis forced a fumble on the Stevenson 30, scooped up by Demetrius Salley to get the ball back for the Mustangs.
- Cougars Tamir Sample rushed for a 1 yard touchdown with 3:57 remaining in the first half to give Misericordia their only score of the afternoon.
- Sedgwick rushed for two touchdowns in the second quarter, the first for 17 yards and the second for 1 yard, making the score 23-7.
- Elijah Marquez scored a six-yard rushing TD with 4:44 left in the third quarter, stretching the lead to 35-7.
- Brandon Walker rushed for a one-yard touchdown with 11:39 left in the fourth quarter rounding out a 12-play, 55-yard drive. The defense then marched onto the field to force a three-and-out from the Cougars.
- Brandon Walker rushed for his fifth touchdown of the season, this time for one yard, as the Mustangs took a 44-7 lead with 3:09 left in the game.
Numbers and Notes
- QB Sedgwick completed 19/28 passing for 193 yards and ran for a career-high three rushing touchdowns.
- Steven Smothers led the way in receptions, recording 7 catches for 58 yards.
- First year Elijah Marquez rushed for a touchdown. His only other touchdown came against Lycoming earlier this season.
- Clarence Travis led the defensive effort with six tackles.
- Stevenson improves to 8-0 all time against Misericordia, 4-0 on the road.
- This 44-7 victory is the largest margin of victory this season at 37 points.
