YORK, Pa. – The Stevenson field hockey team said goodbye to the 2022 season at Kinsley Field on Wednesday evening, dropping the match to the Spartans, 7-0.
While the Spartans dominated a majority of the match, the Mustangs finished on top in saves, with senior goalkeeper
Jamie Fritz making 10. The Mustangs recorded just two attempts on the evening.
York moved the match in their favor early in the first quarter with a goal from sophomore midfielder Riley Buschert with junior midfielder Sara Pique on the assist. Though the Spartans received two penalty corners early in the game, the Mustangs were not able to break the offense. York scored three goals in the second quarter, as Fritz added two saves to her record, denying attempts from Buschert and junior defense Lindsey Cowan. The Spartans earned their fourth goal off a penalty stroke.
Fritz recorded two more saves early in the third quarter amid four attempts from the Spartans, adding two additional saves as the quarter ticked on. Sophomore midfielder
Rylee Leakway, who could not get a shot past the Spartans' defense, made the first of two attempts for the Mustangs in the 42
nd minute. The second shot came early in the fourth quarter off the second penalty corner for the Mustangs from sophomore defense
Haley Palmer. The Spartans finished the match with 26 total shots and 16 penalty corner attempts for a final 7-0 score.
The Mustangs have now concluded their fall 2022 field hockey season. The Spartans clinched the second seed in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth tournament, which will follow after their match against FDU-Florham on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m.
