Gibson, Zagula Lead Mustangs to 2-0 Win Over Lebanon Valley

HERSHEY, Pa.- The Stevenson women's hockey team defeated Lebanon Valley, 2-0 in a UCHC, MAC contest Friday afternoon.

  • Both teams started off the game trading shots on the net. Early in the first period, the Mustangs had a power-play opportunity with Tea Ferrara and Ashlyn Bray taking shots on goal. Both shots were saved by Lebanon Valley goalie, Shelby Guinard. 
  • At the 14:33 minute mark, Lebanon Valley had their shot at a power-play opportunity. The Dutchmen fired two shots before the end of the play.
  • Following the end of Stevenson's power-play, the Dutchmen had the opportunity. With just seven seconds remaining in the power-play for LVC, the Mustangs got on the board with a short-handed goal. At the 19:26 minute mark, Ally Gibson found the back of the net. 

  • Stevenson got off to a quick start, taking four shots within the first minute. 
  • As the Mustangs continued to hold possession, at the 6:34 minute mark Ferrara assisted KaliJo Zagula for the second goal of the game. 
  • About a minute later, LVC had a power-play opportunity but was unable to capitalize on the opportunity. For the next several minutes, Lebanon Valley held control as they fired off seven shots before the end of the period. 

  • To start off the third period, Cassie Campbell fired off two shots in a row at the 2:16 minute mark but both were saved by the Dutchman goalie. 
  • Three minutes later, the Dutchmen had a power-play opportunity. LVC got off three shots during the play. 
  • During Lebanon Valley's opportunity, a Dutchman was given a penalty. Three Mustangs took a shot on goal but all were saved by the Dutchman goalie. 
  • In the final six minutes of the period, Stevenson held control taking eight shots. 

  • The Mustangs tallied 51 shots while holding Lebanon Valley to 34 shots. 
  • Gibson scored her second and the team's second short-handed goal of the season. 
  • Stevenson held the slight advantage in faceoff wins with 31 while the Dutchmen totaled 29. 
  • Gibson scored her fourth goal of the season while Zagula scored her third. 
  • Ferrara added her fifth assist of the season. 
  • Olivia DeGuire made 23 saves in the net. 

  • Stevenson will host Lebanon Valley tomorrow, Saturday, January 29 at 4:30 PM.
