Mustangs Win, 57-55 in Back and Forth Battle at Albright

READING, Pa.- The Stevenson women's basketball won, 57-55 on the road at Albright, Saturday afternoon for a MAC Commonwealth win.

  • Albright opened up the scoring for the game as they went up 5-0 after a Lion layup. 
  • At the 6:05 minute mark, Denia Campbell assisted Olivia Coleman for a jumper as the Mustangs came within one of Albright. 
  • Stevenson went on a 7-0 run, to take over the lead at 9-5 following a three from Kellie Johnson
  • The two teams went back and forth for the next several minutes. The Mustangs closed out the first quarter after a Coleman layup as Stevenson led, 15-12. 

  • The Lions started again with the scoring in quarter two with two free throws. Both teams went the next two minutes without a basket. 
  • At the 7:42 minute mark, Coleman went up for a Mustang layup to take a 17-14 lead over Albright. 
  • The Mustangs kept things going a minute later as Albright and Stevenson were at 19 all. 
  • Coleman recorded her second block of the game to cause an Albright miss. After Stevenson took over, Albright took over with a 21-19 lead. 
  • The Lions pulled ahead by six with just over two minutes left in the quarter after a layup. 
  • Second, later, Aysia Ferguson responded with a layup of her own as Stevenson trailed, 26-22. 
  • In the final two minutes of the quarter, neither team could capitalize on a basket. Albright led, 26-22 at halftime. 

  • Coleman started off for the Mustangs after she grabbed her own rebound to go back up for a made layup. 
  • K. Johnson assisted Morgan DeBeary for a layup to tie it up at 26 all at the 8:37 minute mark. 
  • Stevenson continued to trade points. Campbell went up for a jumper to again tie up the game at 30 all. 
  • With four minutes remaining in the quarter, Coleman put up another jumper as Stevenson trailed, 36-35. 
  • K. Johnson ended the quarter with two free throws before Albright made one last jumper with 30 seconds remaining. Stevenson led, 41-40 at the end of the third. 

  • The first three minutes of the final quarter were scoreless until Morgan Pennick added a layup to lead, 43-40. 
  • The Mustangs and Lions continued in a back-and-forth battle. Laci Johnson sunk a three with two minutes remaining. 
  • Less than a minute remaining, Albright made two free throws as they trailed by one which caused Stevenson to call a timeout. 
  • With 20 seconds remaining Campbell made a three-pointer to secure the Mustang's win. Albright closed out the game with two final free throws. 

  • Stevenson held a 38.1 FG% while Albright was 34.6 FG%. 
  • The Mustangs totaled 38 rebounds while Albright totaled 37. 
  • Campbell recorded 12 points for her second-most of the season. 
  • Coleman hit a season-high 19 points while also adding 16 rebounds, two steals, and three blocks. 
  • Coleman records her fifth double-double of the season. 

  • Stevenson will host Lebanon Valley next Saturday, January 22nd at 1 PM.
