Box Score REISTERSTOWN, Md.- The Stevenson University women's hockey team used a strong defense to only allow Nazareth two goals as the Mustangs dropped a 2-1 decision.
First-year goalie, Olivia DeGuire tied a season-best 38 saves in the net for the Mustangs.
- Nazareth was off to a fast start as they held control for the majority of the first period. The Golden Flyers fired off four shots within the first 3:30 minutes of the game.
- At the 4:38 minute mark, Nazareth had two power-play opportunities but the Mustang defense held them off to just four shots.
- Nazareth kept up with the consistent shooting and then at the 9:24 minute mark, the Golden Flyers scored their first goal of the game during a power play.
- With five minutes left in the first period, Breanna Crosson and Trinity Barcless attempted shots for Stevenson, one was blocked while the other was saved.
- The Golden Flyers scored their second goal of the game at the 11:18 minute mark in the second period.
- Stevenson responded almost a minute later as they tallied their lone goal of the game. Katelyn Reid and Barcless assisted Cassie Campbell on the goal.
- Nazareth held possession for the rest of the period as they got off seven more shots before the next intermission.
- At the 7:13 minute mark in the final period, Elizabeth Gaudreau and Nikki Kendrick fired off a shot each but both were saved by the Nazareth goalie.
- Minutes later the Mustangs had another opportunity on the goal during a power play. Neither team could get off a shot during the power play.
- Nazareth finished off the game with seven more shots in the final five minutes.
- Nazareth totaled 40 shots while Stevenson was held to just 11 shots.
- Nazareth went 1 for 5 in power plays while Stevenson was 0 for 2.
- The Mustangs won 17 of 38 faceoffs with Tea Ferrara winning nine of them.
- Campbell scored her third goal of the season. Reid added her second assist and Barcless added her sixth assist.
- Stevenson will host Nazareth again tomorrow at 12 PM.
