Mustangs Ground Flying Dutchmen

OWINGS MILLS, Md.- After falling, 26-24 in set two against Lebanon Valley, Tuesday evening, the Mustangs were able to power past the Dutchmen, 3-1.

  • The Mustangs jumped to a 7-3 lead following a kill by Sarah Straub
  • Lebanon Valley started to gain momentum closing the gap to 8-6 after a kill by Mikiah Sangrey. 
  • Stevenson picked up five consecutive points to extend their lead to 19-11. 
  • The Dutchmen responded back as they picked six of the next seven points after Lebanon Valley kill.
  • Stevenson obtained set point on a Lebanon Valley service error, to win set one 25-20. 

  • The Dutchmen started off set two strong as they tallied four points in a row following a Stevenson attack error. 
  • The two teams traded points on and off for a while until the Mustangs found their momentum. Stevenson obtained the next five points in a row to make the score, 11-7. 
  • Lebanon Valley kept set two close as the teams continued to go back and forth before sealing their 26-24 win over Stevenson. 

  • The Mustangs got their revenge in set three as they won, 25-15. 
  • Stevenson got the first five of six points, following a Lebanon Valley service error. 
  • Stevenson extended their lead, 10-6 after another Dutchmen attack error. 
  • Lebanon Valley kept the set close for the next couple of points but couldn't keep up as a kill from Piper Connors and then a Lebanon Valley attack error sealed the Mustang's set win. 

  • The Mustangs went out with a bang in the final set as they won, 25-17. 
  • Stevenson once again took an early, 4-0 lead after two kills by Shannon Baily, an attack error, and a service ace by Kayla Vaeth
  • The Mustangs continued to extend their lead as they started to pull away more, leading 11-5 after three consecutive points. 
  • Lebanon Valley started to creep up on the Mustangs as they totaled two consecutive points following a kill and a Mustang attack error. Stevenson led, 14-11. 
  • Lebanon Valley got their final point of the match after a kill by Shannon Reily but they couldn't keep up as Stevenson took the next two points. A kill by Rileigh Kimball and then a service ace by Olivia Nace ended the set, 25-17 

  • Connors led the team in kills with 11 while hitting .229. 
  • Mackenzie Blevins tallied 23 assists and 11 digs and four service aces. 
  • Straub totaled seven block assists and eight kills (.538) 
  • Darian Dildy added ten kills (.529) and seven block assists. 
  • Stevenson totaled 28 block assists while Lebanon Valley had six. 

 

  • Stevenson will host Marymount (Va.) and Lynchburg this Saturday, October 2nd for a tri-match at 11 AM and 3 PM.
