Box Score 2 SCRANTON, Pa. -- Stevenson women's volleyball opened the afternoon a 3-1 match victory against Manhattanville before falling in straight sets to host Scranton in tri-match action on Saturday.
Stevenson (10-3, 2-1 MAC) began the day with set wins of 16-25, 25-21, 25-12 and 25-15 against the Valiants before enduring its second sweep of the season in set scores of 28-26, 25-15 and 25-17.
- After falling in the first set, the Mustangs responded in a big way.
- Stevenson opened up a 4-0 lead in set two, bookended by two kills from Piper Connors. Manhattanville worked its way back before Stevenson expanded its margin to 20-18 on a Darian Dildy swing.
- Shannon Baily and Dildy smacked down kills to close out the second set for the Mustangs with a 25-21 victory.
- The Mustangs raced out to the first four points in the third set and zipped ahead 10-4 on a block assist by Dildy and Sophia Eckerd.
- Three straight points, a kill from Rileigh Kimball and Eckerd along with a service ace from Kanann Gemmill, pushed the Mustangs to the set three triumph.
- A trio of three-point runs helped the Mustangs build a 16-10 lead in the fourth set. Four consecutive points, which included two blocks, pushed Stevenson to a 20-11 lead.
- Kimball capped the match with a kill for the Mustangs, as they took the opening match of the day by a 3-1 count.
- Both sides traded points in an evenly-matched first set. The Mustangs rallied to force a tiebreak at 25 before Scranton eventually closed out the extended opening frame.
- A five-point surge brought the Mustangs back to within striking distance in the opening set. The run was capped by kills from Baily and Mackenzie Blevins.
- The Royals rose the momentum of their opening set win to early advantages in the second and third sets, closing out the sweep.
- Connors smacked 14 kills, hitting .429 in the process during the opening match. Eckerd hit .500 during the first match with 13 kills for the Mustangs.
- Three players (Emily Pellini, Connors and Kayla Vaeth) registered 10 or more digs in the opening match.
- Connors collected her third double-double of kills and digs on the season.
- Stevenson hit just .099 as a team in the second match.
- Stevenson is back home, opening the first contest of a three-match homestand against Lebanon Valley on Tuesday, September 28 at 7:00 PM.
